Mashpee RTC · From the Chair

40 neighbors in under two hours.

How our chair used a free texting app to reach Mashpee voters before Election Day — and how you can do the same this week.

A text from a friend gets read

It’s time to use tech to win elections, and that tech is sitting in the palm of your hand. Mike Minogue has made a free app available for anyone to use for peer-to-peer texting.

My personal experience with the app was great. It was very simple to use once it was set up. I gave it access to my contact list, and it listed my contacts along with whether they had voted yet. Step 5 is where the magic happens.

In less than two hours I contacted over 40 people in my own town, urging them to vote early and vote for Mike Minogue.

Even better, I was able to customize the standard message: address people by name, thank them personally, add a line promoting our town committee’s website, and include an urgent request to write in a candidate for the open Assembly of Delegates seat. All of that in one simple text message. I stayed warm and dry, and saved time, gas and frustration.

My biggest surprise came when people texted me back to thank me for the information. That’s a rare treat.

Most of us don’t live in cities. Where the nearest door may be an acre away, door knocking is hard work. Peer-to-peer texting lets you reach your friends directly with a well-written message about why we need Mike Minogue as our next governor. One text message that gets read is worth far more than a big mailer that gets thrown in the trash.

Saturday will be the biggest day for early voting. You still have time to reach your friends, neighbors, family and co-workers with the message that Republicans have great candidates who will turn this state around — but only if we come out and vote for them. And remember: you can’t bring campaign literature into the voting booth, but you are allowed a phone.
